PRESIDENT’S REPORT

ACTIVATIONS
The weather has still has been less than ideal for boating, and coupled with health directives it has made for a quieter time for us than usual on the water, however, June has seen 7 activations this year compared to 6 last year, so it looks like things are getting back to normal. This number includes 4 medivacs from Hamilton Island in 5 days, at all hours and in all conditions – despite the resort still not yet being open.

HAWKES BOATYARD ON THE JOB FOR US AGAIN
When Coral Sea Marina VMR1 had to come out of the water this month for an anti-foul and some other work, Chris Carter and the team at Hawkes Boatyard (Gold Sponsor) stepped up to the mark again with their valuable assistance, and the boat was soon back in the water and ready to go. Thanks guys!

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
A few years ago, we introduced 12 month memberships which expire twelve months from the date of joining. That said, we still have a large number of members who have a traditional June 30th renewal date. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, our cash flow from fundraising has pretty much dried up, so we ask members to renew as soon as you receive your Renewal reminder.

We always allow a short period of grace but remind you that our Terms and Conditions provide that ‘under VMR Whitsunday’s Constitution, membership may be terminated if fees are in arrears for two months or more‘. We have again held our membership charges at 2018 rates.

SILVER SPONSOR FISH D’VINE IN NEW PREMISES – WE’RE IMPRESSED!
Fish D’Vine, one of our long standing sponsors, has moved into new premises at the former Cactus Jack’s, and we can confirm first hand that the seafood is well and truly up to their previous high standards and the new premises are terrific! Try them, you will not be disappointed! It is divine!

IF YOU NEED US, WE ARE STILL HERE FOR YOU
VMR Whitsunday wishes to let everybody know that we are still here and ready to provide
assistance to the boating and island communities of the Whitsundays. Of necessity though, we have had to adapt and make some changes to protect our valued volunteers and the public. Hopefully, this will change shortly and we can get back to full operational mode, with regular training and drills to keep our crews ready for any emergency.

Any emergency telephone calls for assistance should continue to be made to 4946 7207,
which is monitored 24/7. As always, if you are in a life threatening situation please call 000.

Membership is just $80 – that is cheap insurance compared to a tow back from say,
Whitehaven, which can be around $1500 for non-members. Then there is the outer reef
which can be big $$$$!

Membership renewals and new memberships can continue to be made online.

STAY SAFE OUT THERE
Our volunteers have been serving the Whitsundays under various organisation names for over 55 years, saving lives at sea. And we want you and us to be here for a long time more.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE HEALTH GUIDELINES BEING PUT OUT BY GOVERNMENT, DON’T BE THE ONE WHO IGNORES THE VALUABLE ADVICE AND PUT YOURSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK. CORONAVIRUS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US, AND IT MUST BE TREATED AS SUCH.

Please comply with all social distancing and isolation guidelines not only for your own sake, but the safety of your family and friends and everybody in this great community we all live in.

Kind regards,
Mal Priday
President, VMR Whitsundays
