September 2021

Hi everyone,

Activation numbers have slowed down, affected by both a prolonged spell of windy weather and the lockdowns in southern states that have dramatically reduced the occupancy rates on the island resorts. For the first time in many months, we are behind the same month last year, but year to date numbers are still significantly ahead of the prior year with numbers 1 ½ times last year’s record levels.

We only need another 17 activations to set a new record! Medivacs are running at 71 so far this year, compared to 62 for all of 2020. We have assisted 474 people this year, double the 2020 rate.

Over the space of just three days, we successfully assisted vessels of 43, 50 and 30 tonnes into various marinas after they suffered engine problems, very thankful for the twin 480 hp engines and shaft drives on Coral Sea Marina VMR1!  August activations HERE.

AGM coming up

John Harper

The AGM for our active members is coming up on September 6. At this event, we will be taking the opportunity (in conjunction with the Game Fish Club, our partners in the Marine Club) to unveil a plaque in memory of the late John Harper, without whose commitment and persistence our Marine Club would not exist.

Nice recognition from QAS

We were pleased to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Queensland Ambulance Service in recognition of the ongoing support and assistance that we provide to the QAS. Last year we completed a record 62 medivacs, and so far this year we have already exceeded that with 69 in less than 8 months.

VMR Whitsunday is proud to be able to provide the necessary medivac support to QAS, assisting people in need from the boating and island communities of the Whitsundays. Our dedicated volunteers are ready to assist, 24/7/365.

Whale Song VMR2 loves publicity!

Over the last month or so it seemed that Whale Song VMR2 almost spent more time out of the water than on it! We participated in the Cannonvale State School Fete, Proserpine Community Markets, Emergency Services Day, and the Rotary Reef Festival Parade. Many thanks to our volunteers who helped with all of that, legends on and off the water!
