PRESIDENT’S REPORT

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hi everyone,

ACTIVATION NUMBERS EASING

The pace of activations has eased after a 3 month period where we completed nearly as many activations as we did in 6 months during last year’s record year!

The slowdown is not necessarily a bad thing as it allows us to catch our breath and catch up on some maintenance.

ARE YOU READY FOR CYCLONE SEASON?

The cyclone season is almost upon us, and we will be posting some recommendations on our Facebook Page in the next week or so. If you have a boat on the water in the Whitsundays, we recommend you ‘Like’ our Page to keep up with the latest information and make sure you are properly prepared, just in case we finish up in the cross-hairs.

BLUE WATER REVIEW PROGRESS

I am pleased to advise that there has been some progress in the Blue Water Review into the possible amalgamation of Marine Rescue and Coastguard in Queensland, with selected squadrons and flotillas being interviewed in a Risk vs Resources process using outside consultants. We look forward to being part of that process.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Ever had the thought that you’d like to volunteer to help out with VMR? Perhaps you’re keen to get out on the boats for activations….or maybe you’re not a boatie at all, but could help in other ways like Radio or fundraising. Whatever your interest or skills, we could use your assistance so perhaps turn that thought into action!

To come out on Activations you will need to attend a minimum of 6 training sessions. More information and an Application Form can be found on our website.

MEMBERSHIP IS A GOOD IDEA

An average assistance tow takes 2.5 hours in total including the time to activate, locate the vessel, tow back to a safe location, refuel and return our boat to its berth. Our operational charge is $323 an hour which equates to a cost of $807 for a simple breakdown i.e. for running out of fuel.

Mal

Tell your friends to join as a member. The $80 a year is comparatively cheap insurance.
